BOTOX® and Fillers

Monmouth & Middlesex Counties, NJ

Our doctors at Central Jersey Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery are proud to be one of the few oral surgery practices in our area that offer BOTOX® and filler treatments. In addition to reconstructing your jaw and replacing your missing teeth, we strive to provide you with every opportunity to maintain and enjoy your beautiful smile. Our extensive training, experience, and expertise in oral and maxillofacial areas surpass that of most general physicians, ensuring skills that deliver excellent BOTOX® and filler treatment outcomes.

What is BOTOX®?

Botox is a muscle relaxer and the most commonly performed, minimally invasive cosmetic procedure in North America. BOTOX® comes in the form of a purified protein and is traditionally injected into facial muscles, causing them to relax rather than contract. Muscle contractions are what cause the lines, or wrinkles, on our faces.

How does BOTOX® work?

Botox, through a process called cosmetic denervation, is injected into muscles that tense up and cause wrinkles. BOTOX® blocks some of the transmitters in the muscles, preventing them from contracting and essentially causing them to relax.

Is BOTOX® painful?

The needle that is used to inject BOTOX® is tiny, and its sting is minimal. The entire process is practically painless, so no anesthesia is needed, and most of our patients are awake during treatment. However, if you are anxious or extra sensitive, we are happy to administer inhalational anesthesia to ensure you are completely comfortable.

Can BOTOX® be used for more than smoothing wrinkles?

Yes! Botox has cosmetic benefits that complement and even enhance many oral treatments, smoothing wrinkles around the lips and highlighting new teeth. However, BOTOX® can also be used to ease chronic facial pain and the intensity of muscle contractions. Our doctors may suggest BOTOX® be used to treat TMJ, jaw clenching, and teeth grinding.

What are fillers?

Dermal fillers—made of hydraulic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body—add volume, lifting cheeks, smoothing lines, and plumping lips. Fillers can be used for high lip line cases, asymmetrical lips around the mouth, and lip augmentation. As part of our comprehensive aesthetic evaluation, our oral surgeons are ready to explore potential treatment options with you.

How long do treatments take and how long do they last?

After the initial consultation, BOTOX® and filler treatments require an approximate 30-minute appointment, and results are seen within days. The effects of BOTOX® usually last 3-4 months, so our patients typically receive 3-4 treatments a year. Fillers will last 4-6 months on average.

Why choose an oral surgeon for fillers and BOTOX®?

Oral surgeons have had more advanced training in the oral and maxillofacial areas than most doctors. The face is where we live every day! In addition to extensive education related to the face, our daily in-office experience guarantees our proficiency in facial injections as well as our first-hand knowledge of facial muscle function.

At Central Jersey Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, we are eager to help you improve your smile and reach your goals. We invite you to contact us today and schedule an appointment to learn more about our BOTOX® and filler treatments.
